What is a roulette?

It is a game of chance with a spinning drum which has numbered cells. The word roulette itself has its roots in the Latin rota, which means wheel. In fact, any game involving the presence of a moving wheel can be considered roulette. The basis of roulette is a spinning ball in a circle. When the ball falls, it indicates a winning number. The aim of the roulette game is to predict the winning number and bet on it. Before the ball falls, players have the opportunity to place their bets on a specially marked area on the table - the sector, trying to guess the winning number. He also wins if he bet on additional fields, common to some numbers. For example, when any red number rolls, the bet on "Red" wins. And the bet on "Black", respectively, loses. In roulette there is a sufficient number of different additional and combined bets. They are all paid accordingly to the payout ratio adopted in a particular casino. Typically, the number is paid 35 to 1, and bets on "Red" or "Black" only 1 to 1.

Roulette is a mathematically determined game based on the fact that payouts are not equal to (usually less than) the odds of the winning number falling out. That is, if the roulette has a 1 in 37 chance of one number falling out, the player only gets 36 chips if he wins (35 to 1 payout and plus the remaining winning chip). One chip goes as a commission to the gambling establishment. And no matter how many chips and different combinations the player would put, in theory, he would lose every 37 chips.

The main types of roulette

European Roulette has 37 sectors from 0 to 36. Sector zero is green, while the rest alternate red and black. The probability of falling out the zero is 2.7%. European roulette never involves a zero in the betting.

American roulette has one more green sector - a double zero located on the wheel opposite the first zero. The advantage of the casino increases to 5.26%. On the gaming table there is no track with verbal bets, typical for French and European roulette. It also has a different order of numbers. In American roulette it is allowed to make bets with zeros and double zeros.

French Roulette is the forerunner of European and American roulette; it contains 37 sectors from 0 to 36, bets are accepted only before the wheel rotates. Provides the ability to make verbal bets and differs in the fact that outside bets on a zeros roll remain on the table for the next round. If they then win, the visitor gets them back, albeit without a payout. This rule also reduces the casino's advantage by a factor of 2.
