After the draw, teams are divided into 8 groups of 4 teams in each group. After the group stage, the first two teams qualify for the playoffs and the team ranked third in the group qualifies for the 1/16 UEFA Cup. Then follows another draw for the 1/8 finals. Its conditions are as follows:

  • Representatives of the same association at this stage are separated into different pairs.
  • Teams from the same group will also be separated by different pairs.
  • Group winners cannot face each other.
  • Second-place winners cannot face each other.
  • Second place winners shall play their first matches at home.

Teams also play two matches and on the sum of both to decide who goes to 1/4 finals. The draw at this stage does not provide any restrictions. • A division into champion and non-champion qualifiers has been introduced: The participants of the preliminary rounds who are not champions of their countries meet strictly with non-champion clubs starting from the second round
Quotas for direct qualification for the group round have been changed: three places have been added for the clubs that finished third in the three top-ranked countries (England, Spain, Italy)
  • Added three places for the champions of the countries ranked from 10 to 12 in the UEFA ranking (Portugal, Greece, Turkey)
  • Eight 1/8 finals matches will be played in four weeks - 4 first matches in the penultimate week of February, the other 4 in the last week of February; return matches will be played 3 weeks after the first. The final will take place on Saturday.
